6. Al-An'am

All 165 verses of Surah Al-An’am were revealed at one time during the last year of the Prophet’s stay at Makkah.  The traditions indicate that it was dictated by the Messenger the same evening that it was revealed.  The Surah is said to have comforted the Prophet and his followers who were suffering from persecution by the disbelievers at that time.

In Surah Al-An’am, the topics revolve around the major articles of faith: Tawhid or the oneness of God, Prophethood, and life after death – and their practical application in human life.   It refutes shirk and states that worshipping other deities besides Allah has no foundation.  Prophet Ibrahim preached Tawhid as well.

There is a beautiful description of Allah's creative power in verses 96-99 of this Surah.

Then later in the Surah, section 14, which is the first section in Juz #8, there is the commandment from Allah to not eat the animals slaughtered in the name of any one other than Allah and then in section 18, there is a definition of what Allah has forbidden us to eat, as far as animals.

The Surah concludes with Allah requiring the believer to declare that “My Salah, my devotion, my life, and my death are all for Allah.”  Allah is Rabb-il-Aala-Min.
