Surah Hud the 11th surah and also a Makki Surah, revealed soon after Surah Yunus was revealed.
In this Surah, we have the stories of Prophets Noah, Salih, Hud, Lot, Shuaib and Moses - peace be upon them all. The basic point is that Allah sent His Prophets and Messengers to mankind out of His grace and mercy, but when people did not listen to the Prophets and rejected their message, then Allah's punishment came – and came relentlessly. It did not make any difference whether someone was the son of a Prophet or the wife of a Prophet, none could escape Allah’s judgment.
There’s the story of Prophet Noah and Allah’s instruction to him to build an ark and the fate of those who disbelieved and laughed at him. The moving description of the fate of Prophet Noah's son is told, where his son instead of getting on the ark, said he would seek refuge on some mountain. Allah made Nuh’s son one of those that drowned in the flood. Prophet Nuh called to his Lord, saying “My son is of my Family.” Allah replied “No, he is not of your family. He is not righteous.”
There is the description of the people of Prophet Lut, who were severely punished by Allah (SWT) because they practiced homosexuality. Allah calls this an evil practice and he removed these people from the face of the Earth, turning their cities upside down and covering them with layer upon layer of baked clay.
The purpose of these stories is to give examples of people who put their faith in and used their efforts for this worldly life and rejected the message of the Prophets. We should learn from what history has proven. Allah could have forced his will upon all mankind, making them believers. But he has given us freedom of choice
